It is mandatory for ECDE teachers to teach in pre-primary and pre-school in Kenya. These teachers must be registered by the Teachers Service Commission before commencing their teaching in any Kenyan schools.
General requirements for registration of teachers in Kenya
~Kenyan citizens.
~certificate of good conduct
~Relevant academic and professional certificate from recognized institutions
~A copy of the identity card or passport
~passport photo
~KRA PIN Certificate
~Duly filled GP 69 Medical Form and
~payment of registration fee;
~Non-refundable fee of Kshs. 1055/- is deposited to TSC;
Registration Account –
National Bank of Kenya – No. 01001000905001
Or Pay Bill Business No. 625625. simple banking using
non kenyan citizens
~Academic and professional certificates and other evidence
~Registration as a teacher received in Kenya or country of origin
~Academic and professional certificates. NB: Must be awarded by a recognized foreign institution and similar by the relevant public body in Kenya
~Certificate of registration as a teacher or authority to teach in the country of origin
~A valid entry/work permit issued by the Department of Immigration
~A valid certificate of good conduct issued by the relevant law enforcement agency in the country of origin
~Revision letter from Ministry of Education (Kenya) and
~Fixed fee of Kshs. 1055
NB: All the documents should be attested by TSC Director or TSC Sub –
County Director.
TSC Registration Requirements for ECDE Teachers
The requirements for ECDE teachers are classified into three categories;

~Minimum CPE/KCPE plus ECDE certificate from
KNEC.
~Minimum mean grade D+(Plus) in KCSE and ECDE certificate from KNEC.
~Minimum Mean Grade D (Plain) in KCSE, KNEC Proficiency Certificate, ECDE Certificate from KNEC
Diploma
~Mean Grade C Plain in KCSE and ECDE Certificate from KNEC.
~Mean Grade C+ (Plus) and above for University Diploma.
