The Teacher Service Commission is mandated by the constitution to carry out teacher registration, discipline, promotion and the general welfare of teachers.
The commission under the leadership of the current CEO Dr Nancy Macharia has undergone robust changes to align teaching profession with other professions like law, doctor and engineering.
In 2012, through an ACT of parliament, the TSC was mandated to ensure teachers undergoes professional development growth.
The TSC since then has mandated four Universities to carry out this noble exercise in teaching profession.
Initially, the teachers union KUPPET and KNUT had joined the in support of the program where teachers enrolled for the exercise.
The exercise is ongoing. It kicked off last December. It was established that few teachers enrolled for the TPD because they were to pay for the training which would last for 30 years.
The has made the teachers union to make fresh demands on who will carry the cost of training.
As indicated in the daily local, Knut and Kuppet seek renegotiation of several deals with TSC,want State to pay sh 6000 fee for teacher training and review of salaries under 2021-2025 CBA.
TSC had signed a non Monetary CBA with the unions something that teachers contested.
