Following the increased cases of student misbehaviour in schools, the Cabinet Secretary of Education Professor George Magoha and his Interior counterpart, Fred Matioang’i have proposed a new way to curb such cases among students in all schools in Kenya.
According to them, the increased cases of misbehaviour forms observed among primary school pupils and secondary school students is becoming uncontrollable.
They have linked the same to the abolition of corporal punishment in the learning institutions.
Professor Magoha said that since teachers have not been legally allowed to administer such punishment to learners, it has become difficult for them to maintain their moral standards since some of their parents are too protective.
This was echoed by the Interior CS George Matiang’i who said that the idea of corporal punishment has to be reviewed.
We must discipline our children and emphasize on things that will lead to a better future and society,” said Matiang’i.
He added that for the students to be successful in life, they ought to learn through their teachers who have the moral authority to educate them.
CS Magoha reiterated the same there is need to re-introduce controlled caning in schools and a possible abolition of boarding schools which is still under discussion by education stakeholder.
Do you agree with them that reintroduction of the cane will curb the ongoing School unrest? Feel free to air your opinion in the comments section below.
