The acting Inspector General of police Mr Noor Gabow has with immediate effect disbanded DCI Special Service Unit (SSU).
All the officers who worked in the unit have been directed to report to the DCI headquarters
“All officers serving in the disbanded unit have been recalled to DCI Headquarters for further instructions.” reads part of a report by the DCI.
This changes come as the National Police Service prepares for reorganization under the new administration.
On Saturday October 15th, President William Ruto confirmed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim as the new Director of Criminal Investigations, taking over from George Kinoti, who resigned.
Through a special Gazette Notice dated Friday, October 14, Ruto directed Amin to assume his new role with immediate effect.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 30 of National Police Service Act,2011, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in chief of the Defense Forces appoint Amin Mohamed Ibrahim to be the Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” the special notice read in part.
Before his appointment, Amin served as the Head of the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).
Ibrahim was among the 10 candidates who were shortlisted by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) to take up that position.
Others candidates who were shortlisted included Bernard Barasa Walumoli from Bungoma, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat from Nandi, Gideon Nyale Munga from Kilifi and Esther Chepkosgei Seroney from Elgeyo Marakwet.
David Kipkosgey Birech from Nandi, Jonyo Michael Wiso from Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nicholas Ireri Kamwende from Embu, Paul Jimmie Ndambuki from Machakos and Dr. Simon Mwangi Wanderi from Nyandarua who were also included in the list.
