Prior to the court’s decision on the presidential petition, some of the Supreme Court’s access roads will be shut down on Monday.
In a statement, Nairobi Traffic Police Commander Vitalis Otieno stated that the roads would be closed two hours prior to the court’s scheduled time for the ruling.
“Ngong Road will be closed at the junction of Ngong Road 1st Avenue opposite NHIF,” Otieno said in a statement on Sunday.
He added that Kenyatta Avenue and Cathedral Road will also be closed to the public.
No motorist will be allowed to access the CBD through Kenyatta Avenue via Cathedral Road but instead are advised to use Haile Selassie Avenue,” he said.
Cathedral Road-Milimani Ngong Road will be closed at Kenyatta Avenue-Valley Road junction near NSSF building.
“Only vehicles heading to the court will be allowed,” Otieno said adding that all other vehicles should use Valley Road.
The stretch between Catheral Road and Haile Selassie Avenue junction will also be closed and motorists have been advised to use Haile Selassie-Ngong Road as the alternative route.
On Monday, a seven-judge Supreme Court bench is expected to rule on the presidential petition filed by Raila Odinga, a candidate for Kenya’s presidency, and six other petitioners.
The court, presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome, will base its decision on nine arguments made in the consolidated petitions contesting the election results of August 9.
