The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) is expected to switch off unregistered sim cards on Saturday, October 15, in accordance with the government’s deadline.
A USSD code was provided by CA and telecommunications carriers that may be used to check registration status before the deadline.
The USSD Code *106# may be used to check registration details across all telecommunication networks.
How To Verify
Simply dialing *106# will reveal whether or not your SIM card has been registered.
The code will bring up a dialog prompt where you may choose to verify your registration or cancel it. This option comes as the first option.
If you’ve successfully registered, you’ll receive a text message with that information.
You will be advised to visit the next telecommunication offices for registration if your details are missing.
However, an option of self-registration is also offered. A registration portal link will be sent to you so that you may register yourself.
At this point, an image of the front and back of your national ID and your phone number will be required.
A user can also cancel a reported number, report an unfamiliar number registered under their name, or verify previously reported numbers using the USSD code provided.
