Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Appoints New CEO
Dr. Kelly Oluoch has officially been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Ambassador Zachary Muburi-Muita, the KMTC board chairperson, made the announcement on Thursday, praising Dr. Oluoch for coming out on top in a panel of more than 66 candidates.
Dr. Oluoch was challenged by Amb. Muita to transform the college, which he claimed is endowed with brilliant minds capable of taking it to greater heights.
“The first and main task ahead of you is on promoting teaching and learning. I urge all of us to rethink managing student and staff ratios,” Amb. Muita said during a three-day Academic Council meeting at the college headquarters in Nairobi.
Dr. Oluoch, who previously served in an acting capacity after his predecessor Prof. Michael Kiptoo’s term expired in November 2021, reaffirmed that he would jointly work with his new team in ensuring the prosperity of the college.
“I take this appointment with great honor and humility. I thank the Almighty God for this chance. I thank the Board of Directors for putting trust in me,” he said.
“I know I have a huge task ahead of me. I look forward to working collaboratively with the board, management, staff and students to create an enabling environment that supports teaching and learning,” he added.
Dr. Oluoch previously served as the Deputy Director of Finance, Planning and Administration; Principal Lake Victoria and Kisumu Campuses; Deputy Head of Pharmacy Department and Head of Pharmacy Department (Machakos Campus); as well as a Deputy Principal and Head of Pharmacy Department.
Before joining the College, he worked as a Pharmacist in Charge at the Marsabit District Hospital.
Dr. Oluoch has a doctorate in business administration with a strategic management option from the University of Nairobi and a master’s degree in biotechnology, innovation, and regulatory pharmacy from Purdue University.
He also has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma in Industrial Pharmacy and Drug Discovery from Purdue University and Howard University in the United States, a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education from Dr. MGR Medical University, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Dr. MGR Medical University.
