This is a national boys only public secondary school. The school was started in 1915 as a boys primary school known as African Government school.
The school was where the current Machakos Girls school sits. The school later changed into a boys boarding school in 1939.

The school is located approximately 70 km from Nairobi town. It sits on a whooping 118 acre piece of land, ensuring that there is enough space for construction of infrastracture that will help steer academic excellence.
Machakos Boys High School KCSE performance;
In 2018’s KCSE exams, the school had a mean score of 7.59 . This was quite a drop from what is expected from them but they are determined to go back to be the winning team.
However, the school has always been known to excel in their KCSE examinations.

Here, form one selection is usually done via academic merit in regards to KCPE examinations. The students who have high results and selected the school as the first choice are given higher priority than others.
