Since the outbreak of COVID 19 pandemic in the country, 227,077 people have tested positive for the disease and a total of 4,435 patients have succumbed to the disease.
The disease has been spreading in all parts of the country like Bush fire in regards to the total population and security.
The Kenyan government through the Ministries of Health, Education and Interior and Coordination of National Government have come up with some containment measures to curb the rapid spread of the virus.
Currently, the positive cases have been increasing thus overwhelming the hospitals.
In March 2021, the Kenyan government launched the first vaccination campaign targeting the teachers, health workers, security officers, pupils servants, people with 58 years and above and those aged 18 years with underlying conditions.
The Ministry of Health in consultation with the Kenya Medical Association and the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynecological Society has stated that lactating mothers and pregnant women are in great danger when affected with the COVID 19.
According to the Ministry of Health, the above mentioned groups of people can develop more complications when they contact the virus.
It is believed that pregnant women with COVID 19 can deliver earlier than the expected time. Also lactating mothers with COVID 19 can easily pass the virus to the infants during breastfeeding.
The Ministry of Health is now urging both lactating mothers and pregnant women to embrace COVID 19 vaccines and ensure that they are vaccinated against the disease to be safe and sound.
