According to Daily Nation News paper, a report has emerged about a looming mass exit of teachers from TSC.
The Nation newspaper has reported that between 8000 to 10000 teacher are exiting the profession yearly yet TSC is employing only 5000 instead of 12,000.
Huge number of teachers are the one who have applied for earlier retirement. While others are those in opposition to go back to class for TPD modules yet they have few years in service.
The Government through the Ministry of Education (MoE) is now transitioning the curriculum from the 8.4.4 system to the new 18.104.22.168.3 CBC system.
The new system has been praised on a view that it will help the students acquire skills rather than the rote knowledge that the current curriculum is accused of.
Besides that, the outgoing and long serving curriculum has been putting a lot of emphasis on exams and cognitive skills with those failing in national examinations viewed as failures in the society.
One of the main challenge has been the teachers shortages. However, TSC has been employing new teachers year every year but this has not been able to curb their shortages in schools.
The Government has always allocated insufficient funds for employment of teachers leaving with TSC an option to only employs 5000 teachers yearly.
With the double transition looming, what next for the Commission?
