MoE: Official Closing Dates For Term 2, 2022 Academic Year
All learners across basic learning institutions in Kenya will break for Holidays on Friday 16th September for a 10 days break that will last till 26th September 2022 when schools will open for the final Term of the current academic year
The first term of the 2022 academic year began on April 25th and ended on July 1st, lasting a total of 10 weeks. The changes in term dates were meant to restore normalcy to the school calendar after the disruption by covid 19 pandemic
All schools were closed on August 9, 2022, to make way for voting and tallying in the country’s general election. On August 18, 2022, learners reported to school to finish out the remainder of term 2.
Term two was supposed to last a total of 10 weeks in the earlier school calendar provided by the Ministry of Education, however this never happened. As a result, several stakeholders in education proposed that the Ministry adjusts the calendar.
Professor Magoha maintained that the term dates will never be altered.
Due to the fact that the KCPE, KCSE, and KPSEA Examinations will be taking place during this term, learners will not have a haft term break.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) national exams for the 2022 academic year are scheduled to take place between November 28 and December 23.
1.27 million candidates have enrolled to take the Grade Six exam, which will be administered between November 28 and 30, as part of the new curriculum that will allow them to enroll in junior secondary schools.
In response to criticism from the education sector and head teachers, the Education Cabinet Secretary, Professor George Magoha, stated in August 2022 that an extension of the school Calendar will not be implemented.
