The ministry of education will place students in different schools and which can be national schools, extra-county schools, county schools, and sub-county schools.

The ministry of education announced that the placement process will be concluded by date 16th of January 2023 meaning that parents and learners should expect the results on the 16th or before the 16th.

In terms of the fees the 2023 new form one parents will pay, it will be higher than what the 2022 parents have been paying because the ministry of education scrapped the fee subsidy.

Speaking through the standard, Jwan wants schools to revert to the initial costs they levied prior to the COVID-19 epidemic, placing parents in danger of having their children removed from their preferred schools.

In contrast to those attending special schools, who will now have to pay Ksh 6,000 more, those who attend free day schools will have a tiny relief since the costs will remain the same.

Parents whose children will join national and extra-county schools will pay Ksh.53,554, and those whose children will join schools outside the towns of Nakuru, Kisumu, Nairobi, Mombasa, Nyeri, Eldoret, and Thika will pay Ksh.40,000. Those learners who will join schools with special needs will pay Ksh.12,790.

Despite the difficult economic times that everyone is through, this is increasing the load on the parents. Will the parents continue to send their kids to public and private schools?

Unlike the already given out hopes of reduced school fees in 2023 by the ex- cabinet secretary prof.Magoha,the rubber is yet to hit the road for parents of this great nation.

As per the earlier guidelines,all secondary schools participating in the government’s Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) program, the Ministry of Education has issued the 2023 tuition schedule.

The updated regulations outline the amount of school fees that parents at National Schools, Extra County Schools, County, Sub-County, and special schools are required to pay. The Following are Ministry’s updated policies;

In order to assist schools in meeting some maintenance and development needs, it was decided to increase maintenance and improvement in 2019. This decision was therefore to remain in effect in 2023.

FDSE CAPITATION TO SCHOOLS

Government subsidy to schools to actualize Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) was to be KES. 22,244.00 annually per learner as stipulated in table below;

Table 1: FDSE Structure

S/NO. ITEM AMOUNT (KES)

1 Tuition 4,144.00

2 Medical/ Insurance 2,000.00

3 Activity 1,500.00

4 SMASSE 200.00

5 Other Vote Heads 9,400.00

6 Maintenance and Improvement 5,000.00

7 Grand Total 22,244.00

Other vote heads: local travel and transport, Administration, Electricity, Personnel emolument.

The government previously instituted free daytime education, with parents only providing for their children’s lunches. Is the government attempting to advance day schooling?
