Raila Odinga, the Presidential Candidate for the Azimio la Umoja, revealed that after losing the General Election on August 9, he and his entire family flew out of the country to get some rest and recuperation.
He said that he proceeded on holiday to recover after hurting his face.
Raila gave a speech during an event that was held to mark the inauguration of Abdulswamad Nassir as the new Governor of Mombasa, which took place on September 15.
“I went to recuperate in Zanzibar. I took my wife, children and grandchildren out of the shock they got,” he stated.
I came this morning from Zanzibar and arrived late than expected. I was not able to be with you at the swearing-in (of Abdulswamad), but here I am,” Raila stated.
The 2022 presidential aspirant congratulated the governor for winning the election, claiming that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intentionally postponed the Mombasa gubernatorial election to manipulate the election.
“The people of Mombasa overwhelmingly voted for Azimio. The same thing happened in Kakamega. I want to thank the people of the two counties for standing with Azimio.
At the same time, the former Prime Minister criticized the Judiciary for their decision, which validated Deputy President William Ruto’s victory with a unanimous vote.
In his criticism of the Judiciary’s ruling, Raila compared it to a dictatorial regime that imposes its will on the people of Kenya. He did, however, advise his followers to hold off celebrations until the Supreme Court released its full ruling.
“The ruling was judicial thuggery and we will not allow these types of things. We will not allow the judiciary to become a dictator.”
“We can lead a one million march to the judiciary and tell them to go home. We have a right as a people to not agree with bad rulings,” Raila explained.
In addition to the judiciary, Raila has called for changes to be made at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
