Former Kiambaa Member of Parliament and billionaire Stanley Githunguri is dead.
The former politician who was 77, died at an undisclosed city hospital with his family yet to communicate.
Current Kiambaa lawmaker John Kawanjiku mourned the former lawmaker, noting that Githunguri was a dependable leader whose undivided focus was the unity and progress his people.
“I interacted with Githunguri as a young man, he was a dedicated leader who was committed to the welfare of his people”, Kawanjiku confirmed.
Githunguri ventured into politics in 2007, and immediately got a chance to represent the people of Kiamba, succeeding former cabinet minister and businessman the late Njenga Karume.
While in Parliament, and a member of the independence party KANU, Githunguri served in the Local Authorities Committee between 2008 and 2013.
He, however, lost his Kiambu senatorial bid. The seat was won by current Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
Githunguri later settled for a quiet life in business, away from the public limelight immediately after losing to Wamatangi.
Githunguri’s daughters Lilian Ngagaki and Lilian Wanjiru later told a court that their father suffered from dementia, blood pressure, and diabetes and he had also undergone a kidney transplant.
Githunguri is the owner of Lilian towers that host the Nairobi Safari Club, Ridgeways Mall, and other properties in Ruiru and Kiambu Sub counties.
Upon returning from the US after further studies, he ventured into banking, working with a local bank, and rising through the ranks to become a top executive.
