A new academic calendar is out. The calendar shows looming tough times for teachers and students in covering syllabus as the academic year is slashed by a whole month.
The schools are expected to reopen in two weeks time. However, the new academic year is said to be one of the shortest in Kenya’s education history.
Before Covid came, a normal academic year had 36 weeks. In 2021 the academic calendar was reduced to 30 weeks, to help recover the lost time.
However in 2022, the academic year has reduced to 26 weeks only.
Term One:
The first term in the 2022 academic calendar will starts on 25th April and will end on 1st July. There will be a half term break from May 26th to May 29th. After the end of the term one, the students and teachers will break for one week holiday from July 2nd to July 10th.
Term Two:
The second term will then begin on July 11th to September 16th. The mid term break is set for August 11th to 14th. However it is not indicated whether the schools will break during the elections day.
The second term holiday will also be one-week long from September 17 to September 25.
Third Term:
Term three of the 2022 school year will then begin on September 26th and end on November 25th.
According to the new calendar, the 2022 KCPE will be done between November 28 and December 1.
This will be followed by 2022 KCSE from December 1 to December 23. The Grade Six national assessment will also be conducted in December
