All the students who failed to gain admission to higher education institutions after sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2021 have been encouraged to apply for placement.
This is after Kenya University of Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) was asked by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha to open its systems for university and college placement applications and revisions of decisions.
Students who apply would be enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training programmes, he said.
In a statement he said ,”KUCCPS will be admitting students to the 32 government primary teacher training institutes for the first time. These TTCs are open to KCSE candidates from 2021 and prior years, including non-citizens.”
It is now for the first time, students will be admitted to the 32 government primary teacher training colleges through KUCCPS. The TTCs are open to KCSE candidates from 2021 and prior years, including non-citizens,” he stated.
Dr. Mercy Wahome, the CEO of Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, stated that all 826,807 KCSE candidates will be placed in higher education institutions.
Dr .Wahome announced that all 145,145 pupils who scored a C+ or higher on the university admissions exam will be awarded government-sponsored spots at public and private universities.
Those students with a minimal university entry grade might consider applying for courses at TVET institutes and Teacher Training Colleges, according to Magoha.
It is only candidates who took the KCSE between 2000 and 2021 and received a C(plain) or higher will be considered for placement in the primary TTCs.
Those students who received a C+ or higher in technical topics should apply to the three diploma-granting secondary TTCs, Kibabii, Lugari, and Kagumo, which are admitted through KUCCPS under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) system.
Since government sponsorships are only available to students who apply through the KUCCPS site, Magoha encouraged the placement board to notify all applicants by the end of June.
Professor Magoha requested the placement agency to ensure that the school portal is open in July 2022 so that existing students can begin selecting courses based on KUCCPS’ fairness, integrity, and efficiency.
