Teachers employed by teachers Service Commission are entitled to various allowances on top of their basic salaries.
The allowances include house allowances which are paid depending on where one teaches with those in Nairobi taking the lion’s Share.
Others are commuter and annual leave allowances.
The said allowances are remunerative and are paid together with basic salaries with leave being given out once every year on January.
The table below shows leave allowances per job group.
Teachers will therefore be receiving their leave allowances in January 2022.
Unfortunately at the same time, teachers will be surrendering something money to provident fund which begun this year.
The Contributory scheme came in to replace free government Pension which they have been enjoying since independence.
On January 2022, the second phase of 2.5% of pensionable pay will again be deducted making it 5%.
However, not all teachers are paying towards the scheme following the exemption of those who were above the age of 45 years by January 2021.
The fund is being manage by carefully selected commercial Banks and can be accessed by teachers even before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
Teachers therefore should brace themselves for another round of deductions come January which is likely to impact negatively on there Payslips.
