A considerable number of teachers will this month reap from salary increments as planned by the teachers’ service commission, TSC.
The teachers’ employer is determined to effect the payrise to teachers who are on permanent and pensionable terms, excluding intern teachers and teachers on contract.

So far, the commission and teachers’ giant unions Knut and Kuppet have not come to a formidable agreement on a review to the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement to include salary changes for teachers.
TSC and Knut have however revealed it clearly that should there be any changes on salary component in the CBA, then it will only be possible after the 2022 general elections and that the agreed salary changes can only be effected after July 2023 budget.
Despite the lack of agreement, some categories of teachers are slated for higher perks in July 2022. Here are their Details:
Teachers in Job Group C4, C5, D1, D2, D3 and D4
These six job groups comprising of school administrators will earn salary Increment plus all the arrears this July 2022.
According to a report published by TSC, these teachers are eligible for payrise since they have not reached their maximum salary bar or salary points.
As per the CBA 2017-2021 salary banding, grades C4, C5, D1, D2, D3 and D4 have not yet attained the maximum salary points.
The commission has confirmed plans to extend the salary points for the mentioned grades with effect from 1st July 2020.
Amazingly, all the teachers in the job groups will be paid their salary increments, alongside all the arrears, from the dates they attained the maximum salary point to January 2022.
However, it has also been confirmed that teachers in Job group B5, C1, C2, C3 and D5 will not be given a payrise since they are not eligible as per the CBA 2017-2021 terms.
According to TSC, the teachers in job group B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 have attained their maximum salary points, hence it will not be possible for their salaries to progress upward.
“Grades B5, C1, C2, C3, and D5 have reached the maximum salary points provided for in the banding by the completion of the cycle for CBA 2017-2021,”said Nancy Macharia in the report.
2.TSC TEACHERS Yet To Reach Maximum Salary Points in Their Job Groups
Another group of teachers who will experience changes in their payslips this month are teachers who are currently on permanent and pensionable terms, completed at least a year in service, and have not reached maximum bar.
The teachers are eligible for annual salary increment paid yearly, but effected every July.
