The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) jointly with the Competency Authority of Kenya released the Consumer rights syllabus for Grade Seven learners.
Other learning areas released are clusters for English, Mathematics and Pre-technical studies taking five lessons per week.
Integrated Science and Kiswahili will be taught four times a week whereas Foreign languages and Social Studies will take three lessons per week.
Physical Education and Sports, Health Education and Religious Education will be taught twice.
Virtual Arts/Performing Arts, Business Studies/Computer Studies will be taught thrice and lastly Life Skills Education will appear once in a week.
The aim of the subjects is to equip learners with skills and get informed on labour market.
Effective January 2023, the new syllabus for junior secondary school will be used to benefit over 1.2 students transiting to Grade Seven.
Teachers are asked to ensure that they are familiar with the new syllabus in order to implement it.
