Any freshly hired/Employed graduate teacher in Kenya receives a basic salary from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of at least Sh34,955 per month.
In addition such a teacher is classified as a Secondary Teacher II and falls under grade C2 (formerly known as Job group K).
Additionally to basic pay, also receive allowances.
With the C2 teachers, one will earn a monthly commuter allowance of Sh5,000.
Also note that one annual payment of Sh6,000 is made for leave benefits.
In addition a monthly house allowance of between Sh6,500 and Sh7,000 is given.
All the newly hired teacher are required to serve a minimum of six (6) months of probation, according to the stated in the TSC appointment letter. This trial period may occasionally be prolonged.
Also note that one will automatically advance to job group L, or grade C3, after three years of service. This is done after completing the TSC promotion form.
Note also that before the net pay appears in your account, the deductions will be made from your paycheck.
Deductions are either third-party or statutory (HELB, PAYE, and NHIF) (loans, savings and union dues).D
With the diploma in Education holders receive an entry-level monthly salary of Sh27,195. They are also eligible for a number of benefits.
All the primary school teachers begin their careers in education at Grade B5 (Job Group G) and are paid a base pay of Sh21,756 per month.
